On the 6th of june 1944 the largest military operation ever took place on the Normandy beaches. American, British, Canadian and French forces disembarked on the coast of Normandy to liberate Europe after 4 years of occupation by German troops. More than 6000 vessels were deployed including 4000 landing craft and 130 warships for bombardment of the coast. 4000 Aircraft in the air to support the landings, including 1000 transport aircraft to bring the paratroopers and Airborne troops across. At the first day of the invasion they managed to put 156.000 men ashore on five Normandy beaches, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.
